Are cupcakes still cool? We’re not sure, but we certainly hope so because we’ve discovered that you can get gluten free cupcakes at the Hummingbird Bakery – in TWO flavours.
They’re just as sickly sweet and utterly delicious as the gluten-full kind, and you can take your pick from Red Velvet (red vanilla sponge with a hint of chocolate, and a lovely hat of cream cheese frosting) and the regular vanilla kind (with multi-coloured frosting and sprinkles).
We chose red velvet, because lets face it, it’s the best one, and were quite delighted with the taste and the texture of these beauties! The cake wasn’t at all crumbly or dry, and the cream cheese frosting was sweet as can be. We *may* have got a little hyper after consuming it, in fact…
Also while browsing the gluten-full baked goods we found these awesome looking whoopee pie things, and the deadliest of Halloween cupcakes – Hummingbird, if you’re listening, we’d love a gluten free version of those too, please! Zombies hate gluten too, we’re sure of it.
- Gluten free red velvet cupcakes: £2.95 each
- Gluten free vanilla cupcakes: £2.75 each
The cupcakes are labelled as “Made Without” because they are made with ingredients that do not contain gluten, but the range is not certified gluten free as the cakes are made in a kitchen where there’s plenty of gluten present.
In the interests of customers’ health and well-being, The Hummingbird Bakery does not certify its Made Without range as gluten-free. The bakeries wash down the mixing equipment before mixing the Made Without batters, these are then kept separate and labelled, and then finally baked in the distinctive silver cases so that they stand out from the “regular” range, but Hummingbird Bakery cannot guarantee that there won’t be traces of gluten in the products.
So whether you want to take your chances is up to you…
